LikhAnk is a practice app for CBSE Class 10 students. Most of the people who use it are under 18, so we keep as little as we can, use it only to run the app, and ask a parent or guardian to agree before a student starts.

What we keep

  • The student's mobile number and name, to sign in and to greet them.
  • A parent's or guardian's mobile number, and when they agreed.
  • Test answers, photos of answer sheets, marks, feedback and practice answers.
  • Progress: XP, streaks, badges and which chapters have been taught at school.
  • Network addresses for a short time, to stop people requesting too many sign-in codes.
  • If notifications are turned on, the address the browser gives us for sending them. Signing out removes it.

What we use it for

  • Running timed tests and marking them. Multiple-choice answers are marked automatically.
  • Written answers are marked by an AI examiner, and teachers check the answers it isn't sure about or that a student asks to have re-checked. Photos of answer sheets are sent to the AI service only for marking.
  • Suggesting what to practise next, from the student's own results.

We don't show ads, don't sell data, and don't track students across other apps or websites.

Who else sees it

  • Teachers on LikhAnk who check marking see the answers but not the student's name: students write a paper code on their sheets instead. Each time a teacher opens an answer is recorded.
  • Service providers that work for us: hosting and storage, the SMS service that sends codes, the AI service that marks written answers, and an error-reporting service. They may only use the data to provide that service, and may not use it to train their AI.
  • The AI service is in the United States: photos of answer sheets, and the questions and marking scheme, are sent there for marking. The error-reporting service is in the European Union and receives technical details of errors only, never answers, names or phone numbers.

How long we keep it

  • Photos of answer sheets, and the AI's reading of them (what it transcribed and its notes): 180 days after the test. Marks stay.
  • Sign-in codes: until they're used, or a day after they expire.
  • Records of code requests: 7 days.
  • Accounts nobody has used for 2 years: deleted, with everything in them. We send an SMS a month before.
  • Everything else: until the account is deleted.
  • Backups: copies kept to recover from accidents are deleted on a rolling basis, within [backup period, to be set before launch], and are never used for anything else.

Your choices

  • See and change the name and mobile number in Account.
  • Delete the account in Account โ†’ Delete my account. This removes the student's answers, photos, marks, progress and sign-in records straight away, including the parent's number.
  • A parent can ask us to delete their child's account or stop using their data at any time.
